DC-10

DC-10 is a low concrete building beside the airport runway with a terrace, a dark room, and planes landing directly overhead. There is no VIP area worth the name, no dress code, and no interest in what you're wearing. It is the closest thing left to the island before the production budgets arrived.

Monday is the institution — the long-running day-into-night party that everyone who works on the island goes to on their day off. It's 1,500 capacity rather than 5,000, which means you can actually move, and the crowd is there for the music with an intensity you don't get in the big rooms.

It is also rough around the edges in a way some people hate. The toilets are grim, the sound is raw rather than pristine, and it gets uncomfortably hot. If that sounds like a complaint, go to Hï instead — this place is not trying to be comfortable.

Who it's for

Go if: People who care more about the crowd and the music than the room.

Don't bother if: Anyone who wants comfort, a table, or a photogenic night.

What it costs

If the door price is the problem, Eden is the cheaper option at €20–35 — the best value big room on the island. no pretence at all.
